TIP: The College Essay Should Not Be Tackled Alone. 

TALE: OK, so where are my overachievers? The kids who do everything right, run all the organizations, never late for an assignment, etc. I mean - perfection at its finest. 

Three years ago Sandra had spent over 10 hours on her drafted personal statement. She felt pretty good about it because she had marinated and mulled over this ONE essay for hours. Her mom asked me to read it and within minutes I knew she could do better. THIS was NOT the essay that would get her admitted to top 100 colleges. 

Within the first day of essay camp, she abandoned her essay and in 20 hours of camp she wrote four new essays. FOUR essays in five days! 

TRUTH: Sandra had everything she needed to write a successful essay, what she didn’t have was guided instruction. The college admission essay is NOT an English paper with a topic or thesis statement. NO. That is where students go wrong.
