“Julia’s Coolness Factor” Gold Award Project. Love of Egyptology. 200+ Junior Ranger Badges

May 09, 2022

“The Line For Five”

As an Assistant Admission Director at Vassar College, I remember noting at the top of an applicant’s file if she or her were one of the following: A) Student Body President, B) Editor in Chief of the School Newspaper or Yearbook, C) Captain of a major sport, D) Girl Scout Gold Award Winner or Eagle Scout, or E) Conducting research and/or nationally ranked and/or curing cancer. The “Line for Five” was a big deal indeed.

Why these five? Well - it shows leadership, or what we call “impact leadership.” These roles take time, often feeling like a full or part time job. These students have the respect of their peers and adults around them, and many are doing something that will leave an impact and carried on for many years to come.

In this episode, Julia also reveals how her love of Egyptology began and her accomplishment of over 200 ranger badges. This invariably fueled her decision to major in history, classics and/or folklore.

Julia HAS so many coolness factors, it is hard to know just which ones helped her stand out!

Julia is an alumna of College Essay Bootcamp. As a gold package member, she and I were able to stay connected after essay camp, review more essays with our extra time together, and when she had a quick question or needed a pep talk - she used the Marco Polo app to “holler” at me throughout the year.
