TIP: College Admissions Is A Temporary Part-Time Job.

TALE: One of my favorite students is Bonnie. Bonnie’s mom, Francie, and I went to UCLA together, and she knew Bonnie needed direction on what to do and how to get started on her college admission journey. In spring of 2020, Bonnie was one of my first students in Dream College Academy and within the first few lessons, Bonnie was off to the races. She made spreadsheets, looked up colleges, found deadlines for her upcoming auditions, scheduled virtual tours and attended webinars. 

Suffice to say that Francie was shocked at just how many hours the entire process took. To say that Bonnie spent more than 100 hours on researching colleges, writing essays, completing applications, requesting and gathering materials from her school, and recording audition videos might be an understatement. Yep. You read that correctly.

TRUTH: The college admission process is not hard, it just takes time. The sooner the student and the parents wrap their brain around this unavoidable fact, the better. Bonnie realized this early on and took action.

The great thing about Francie is she knew early on that she did not know enough to properly help her daughter. Francie is one of the most encouraging humans I know, and even she knew Bonnie needed a coach to guide her along the way. Most parents I meet are like Francie, she wanted to ensure she could support her daughter through this stressful process, while also maintaining a happy relationship with her daughter. Not easy to do, but with some help, it’s possible.
