Children’s Book Author. Girl Scout Gold Award Winner.

Today we meet Jalynn - This Texas-born future Veterinarian is also children’s book author!!

How did you come with your list? I applied to colleges all over the country. I  quite specifically picked my list based on my intended career path of becoming a veterinarian: the school on my list either had a Pre-Vet type of track or at the very least a solid biology program.

What did you do right? I started my resume early and documented my activities really early so that when application time came along I didn’t have to try to remember all of my activities. I documented all my Girl Scout activities, like badges and honors, school activities, athletics, etc. Also, I was able to explore my interests, and even take courses about becoming a veterinarian!

What is your coolness factor? For my Girl Scout Gold award, I wanted to work in something that was important to me and as a future veterinarian, I care alot about animals, so I focused on the environmental impact of plastic pollution on marine wildlife.  For my Girl Scout Gold Award project, I hosted a festival in my community and wrote a children’s book about this problem!

NOTE: A small percentage of Girl Scouts actually go on to complete the Girl Scout Gold Award. This is quite an achievement and is noted as such in the college application process.

Any regrets? If I could do it over again, I would look at smaller colleges. It is possible to find endless opportunities as well as core your values reflected either at a large or small school!
