Mid West or Beach City?
Season 5, Episode #100
Mid West or Beach City?
Today we meet Miles. This aspiring computer scientist has to decide between an ocean view and a mid-west college experience.
What did Miles do right? He made the most of what was presented to him. He took the most rigorous course load possible, and also took summer classes and pursued summer internships. He took a variety of courses in electrical engineering and computer science -- ‘gave evidence’ to his desired major
What is his coolness factor? He started an e-sports club; raised funds, students would go to video game playing tournaments.
What did he do with is newfound time during the COVID shutdowns? He started a free grocery delivery business for his elderly and immunocompromised neighbors. He created and coded a website, developed an online ordering system, and did all the shopping and deliveries himself.
Miles’ tips: Start early!! Make sure you have safety schools. He took essay camp twice, so that he could understand the essay-writing process before the clock really started ticking.
